Digger's Hotline

Diggers HotlineIf your outdoor projects involve building a deck, planting some trees or shrubs, replacing your mailbox post, installing a gym set for the children, or anything else that requires you to disturb the ground, you need to make a call to Digger's Hotline, 3 days in advance of your dirt moving plans.

As a homeowner you may be aware of Diggers Hotline for large excavation projects that dig deep, but do you realize that you need to contact Diggers Hotline for projects that involve any digging in your yard? State law (Wisconsin statute 182.0175) requires everyone to contact Diggers Hotline anytime the soil is disturbed. It is also important to be aware of the fact that you may be held liable for any damages to buried utility lines if Diggers Hotline is not contacted before digging.

Homeowners are reminded to contact Diggers Hotline before digging by simply dialing 811 or 1-800-242-8511 from any land line or cell phone.  It's very important to identify where any buried pipes or wires are located prior to disturbing the soil in any way.

There is no charge to the homeowner to put in a locate request into Diggers Hotline, who will then inform all utilities with buried facilities, such as water, sewer, gas and electric utilities, telephone and cable companies of your intentions to dig in a specific area.  You do need to plan accordingly though, and allow 3 business days after the day you call Diggers Hotline for the utilities to do the locates before beginning your project.

Diggers Hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  For more information you may also check out their website at www.diggershotline.com or click on the 811 to the right .
